KYB’s New Product: A Nonlinear Design
Posted on June 3rd, 2015 No commentsCalCo recently did a project for KYB, a leading manufacturer of hydraulic components for mobile equipment worldwide. KYB came to CalCo with their new product, a linear actuator, and CalCo designed an eye-catching color scheme for the product’s display and used a deluxe paint finish on the created model to make the product pop. CalCo’s deluxe finish requires hours of detailed hand work, which includes grinding and hand sanding a display’s surface smooth before a high-end glossy automotive paint finish completes the look.
CalCo also provided a professional and sturdy travel case for easy transportation of KYB’s new display piece. From the beginning steps of designing and building displays to the final stages of packaging and transferring finished projects, CalCo has a number of services available based on each customer’s customized needs.

Pratt & Whitney PT6 Engine Cutaway of a Mainstay Available Now
Posted on February 4th, 2015 16,026 commentsThe Pratt & Whitney PT6 turbine engine in the one of the most popular turboprop engines in history. The PT6 was first put into use in 1964 and is still in production today. This versatile and stable engine design can be found in turboprop airplanes, helicopters, amphibious planes, military aircraft, aerial application planes, Short takeoff and Landing (STOL) aircraft and many more.
The versatility of this engine and the extremely high reliability has made the PT6 a mainstay in the design and manufacturing of small aircraft the world over. The concepts and characteristics of this engine make it a perfect tool for explaining the general concepts and component design of a turboprop engine. A limiting factor historically with creating display engines for use in the classroom or on the show floor is that the engines last so long that a full engine, out of service, is very difficult to find. Parts are reused on further engines, and the lifelong journey of various production parts can span decades.
CalCo, in conjunction with Aerovision International, a leading aircraft and engine service provider, have produced a full cutaway version of the legendary PT6 engine as shown here. The fully exposed engine system shows everything from the 3-stage axial and single stage centrifugal compressors, to the turbines, gears and burners. Color coding is used to help clarify heating and cooling zones through the engine phases.
Explaining the properties and functionality of the PT6 as well as overall turboprop design concepts is easy with this fantastic tool. Cutaways like these are as rare as the availability of an out of service PT6, and require the expertise of skilled craftspeople to bring into reality.
For a limited time this exact engine is available for purchase, and with the high demand and low availability of a PT6 cutaway, it will surely be gone in a hurry. The cutaway includes the texture black welded steel rolling engine stand shown, as well as a steel framed shipping container with hinged steel drawbridge style ramp.
If you or your group is interested in owning this high quality example of solid engineering and aircraft muscle, please contact CalCo at 847-639-3858 for more details.Basemounts and Stands, Case Study, Company Info, Cutaways, Design, Finishing, Products, Services, Training CalCo, Calco Cutaways, educational engine cutaway, Engine cutaway, engine cutaway for sale, engine cutaways, lobby displays, Pratt & Whitney PT6 Engine cutaway, trade show display, training aids -

Posted on January 21st, 2015 No commentsWhen Bosch Rexroth Corporation wanted to showcase its Rineer high torque vane-crossing-vane hydraulic motor unique to the world of fluid power, it chose CalCo to help showcase its product.
CalCo prepared the cutaway to Bosch Rexroth’s exact specifications and tolerances, highlighting the bi-rotational rotary power characteristics, which make this motor unique.
Special care was taken to provide a specific passageway paint scheme and custom plating solution to insure durability and longevity as this motor had an exhaustive world tour in its near future.
CalCo also designed and provided a custom case with die cut foam insert to house both the cutaway motor and its companion rotor-stator assembly as well. This case included a telescoping handle and recessed hardware to insure the motor and rotor-stator package would travel safely on its world tour.

Successful Product Launches Involve Many Experts; A Valve Cutaway Case Study
Posted on September 24th, 2014 No commentsAt CalCo, our job is to make your product look spectacular. We take that job seriously. We work with our clients to understand what features of the product should be highlighted and how to best demonstrate those features in a cutaway or display.
When Crane ChemPharma was launching their new FK Ball Valve CalCo worked with them to create a very particular cutaway which would highlight the many positive attributes of the valve. It is easy to see how the valve functions and a salesperson can use the cutaway to clearly show the advantages of this valve and it’s new features. Our client responded in this way:
“CalCo Cutaways did a great job with the sample valves for our new product launch. In addition to delivering on-time, the CalCo team also had several suggestions to enhance the appearance of the samples. Their flexibility, as we made minor changes in scope and design, really made the whole project go very smoothly. I would not hesitate to use CalCo Cutaways for my next product launch.”
