  • “Laissez les bon temps rouler” at WEFTEC 2014

Posted on October 23rd, 2014 admin No comments

Laissez les bon temps rouler means “Let the Good times Roll!” which is what happened at the WEFTEC conference in New Orleans this year.  The show was a great success!  There were 20,385 visitors and 1,027 companies exhibiting.  According to the website  “WEFTEC®, the Water Environment Federation’s Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference, is the biggest meeting of its kind in North America and offers thousands of water quality professionals from around the world the best water quality education and training available today.”  We always enjoy seeing the new technology and seeing the displays, especially the ones we created.

CalCo was at the show to visit our friends and to see our displays in action.  A few of them are shown below:

  • Seeing is Believing: Watch this RowTrac Motorized Display in Action

Sometimes seeing is the only way to believe….that is why this large motorized display has been making believers out of the customers who have seen it.  The display shows some of the advantages of the tread, which belongs to a piece of  large agricultural  equipment,  on a smaller scale so it can be used instead of the equipment and it can highlight some details.   The motion of the display shows that the tread is designed to keep in constant contact with the ground and the cut out areas draw attention to other competitive advantages and unique design elements.  Besides the fact that it is an impressive display at a trade show, and its size and motion can help draw people into the booth, it is also a great educational sales tool with many talking points for the sales team.

If you are looking for a way to WOW your potential customers with a display, contact CalCo at 847/639-3858.

  • CalCo “Secures” an Impactful Booth Display for an Innovative Airport Safety Products Company

Posted on December 20th, 2013 admin No comments

Recently we helped a customer with a complete marketing plan and design.  We designed a logo and created letterhead and business cards. We created a new website and brochure and then we went full circle and created the three dimensional trade show exhibit shown below. No, this was not taken in an airport, but here in our offices and it has been to several trade shows too.  It is a printed background which transports easily so the only additional parts necessary are the table and mats. We worked with our customer to come up with an idea that made their product front and center and showed it in an actual working environment.

At CalCo our job is to make you and your product look good. We work hard to ensure that we meet or exceed our customers expectations every time, whether the job is big or small.  Call us at 847/639-3858 to see how we can help you!

CalCo, the leading supplier of technical interactive marketing and training solutions for over 60 years is proud to announce its latest service offering…”on demand brand innovation and value creation services”. Over many business cycles, CalCo principals and employees have had the ability to work on the cutting edge of product innovation and distribution for a great deal of the world’s leading manufacturers. Neil Sivertson, the President of CalCo, is pleased to announce that CalCo has now extended its reach to consumer based product offerings as well with the help of Erv Frederick. We collaborate with organizations to help them adapt to change and accelerate innovation. This change can be internally driven, due to necessary product re-engineering, or external in response to regulatory or competitive issues. • Industrial Scale Model Lights Up the Show

Posted on July 25th, 2013 admin No comments

For years designers have used lifelike scale models to demonstrate a new building project or large scale installation. The power of scale makes it easier to visualize the finished project before it begins. Making changes and describing details becomes easy and in many cases saves countless hours and dollars. A 3D representation is much easier for most people to understand and there is little need for collateral materials.

When SPX needed a way to show the complex details of a system installation, they called upon CalCo to create a scaled-down representation of how this solution looks. Starting with a 3D file and some line drawings (see below), CalCo was able to recreate this virtual rendering in the real world, to a predetermined scale. With many of the feature components and solutions spanning multiple floors and rooms, removing some of the walls was going to be mandatory, and removing all of them it turns out, was even better. The model can be used at trade shows, customer meetings or wherever a demonstration of the system is needed

As the display was developing, it became apparent that a solution would be needed to light up the shadowed rooms and further accentuate the details of the installation. The final model came in at around 25 lbs., and included a clear acrylic cover to provide maximum protection while on display.

  • Is your trade show booth ready for Mid-America Truck Show (MATS), Offshore Technology Conference(OTC), Hannover Messe or the Bauma Show?

Posted on March 7th, 2013 admin No comments

Over the past few years, some companies have changed focus and are attending either the larger trade shows or more specialized trade shows instead of going to a wide range of shows each year.   That makes the shows that ARE attended that much more important and makes show preparation a crucial component of success.  At CalCo we try to stress the importance of early planning. Before your show, you need to analyze the message you want to convey and what kind of product displays, signage and other materials can help you communicate your message in an effective manner and then give yourself adequate time to create and acquire the right materials.

While we live in a world where we expect quick turnarounds and instanteous gratification, unfortunately, all trade show displays cannot be turned around immediately.  We get frustrated if we can’t give a customer the exact display they want due to time constraints and the customer gets frustrated too.  This problem can be avoided with early planning.  How early?? That depends on the type of display you need, the show you are attending and the time of year.

The type of display will partly dictate the time needed for show preparation. Some small displays and cutaways can be turned around in a short time but the majority of the work we do requires 4-8 weeks. Most cutaway jobs require disassembly, cutting of each piece, painting, reassembly, creation of a custom base or stand, creation of a custom shipper.  We pride ourselves on our quality so we take the time to make sure your display lives up to your expectations and our expectations.  For other types of displays like lightweight models, 3-D printing and animation the length of time necessary depends on the complexity of the project and can vary from a few days to a few months. Advance planning will help you get the results that you need from the shows you attend.

In addition to the time it takes to create your display, you need to consider shipping time too.  While most destinations in the US can be reached in a few days, if necessary, the charge for expedited shipping can be high.  For international destinations, weeks can be required if your display is going by ship instead of flying.  Make sure you consider the time necessary for transportation when getting ready for your show.

Finally, the time of year can affect your trade show planning schedule since most shows occur in the spring and fall.  During these times our turnaround times can be longer due to the volume.  If we can’t meet your deadline than we won’t take your business.  We don’t like to disappoint our customers.

If you need a display for an upcoming show and need an indication of turnaround times or types of displays that we can create, just give us a call. We are happy to help with your planning process so that you can have a successful show. We will be visiting the Mid-America Truck Show (MATS), Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) and Hannover Messe in the next few months. Let us know if you will be there too and we will stop by your booth.

  • Cutaways: Useful for Every Type of Product Display

Posted on October 2nd, 2012 admin No comments

CalCo has been making cutaways for close to sixty years.  Despite the advances in technology that have affected the trade show industry, cutaways are still a strong and widely used way to show your products advantages.  Not only is your product the star of the show but the attributes of your product that you are highlighting to your customers are completely visible. Usually the best part of the product is what is hidden inside and invisible to the eye and a cutaway is a great way to put the interior attributes of your product on display. Your product can be seen, touched and understood.   Giving your customer a chance to see the parts and processes of your product that make it superior to your competition. We can light it up, color code it with paint or make it move to further demonstrate your products advantages. Our goal is to make you and your product look great!

    Some recent examples of cutaways:

Do you need a good way to show your customers the hidden attributes of your product that make it unique?  Do you have a trade show, training session, investor relations meeting or sales call coming up where you need to display your product?

While most of the projects we work on at CalCo are for traditional types of product displays, cutaways, point of purchase displays and training aids, we are often contacted to create something more unusual and we are happy to help. A few of our more recent unusual requests are a metal firepit, an embedded piece of art and a nine foot tall robot (more details coming soon).  As you can see from the photos above these are one of a kind products and require a customized approach.

The cornerstone of our business is customer service and we try to keep that in mind not only when we are working on your project but when we are creating the concept and quoting the project as well. If you aren’t happy then we aren’t happy because our slogan is “Your Product is our Profession” and we take that seriously. No matter what type of display we are creating whether it is a small valve cutaway, a huge engine display or a custom firepit, we want our customers input and satisfaction to be in the forefront.
