  • Let Us Sweat The Small Stuff (Outsourcing vs. In House Production)

Posted on June 12th, 2017 admin No comments

    calco_image_500_wide

Do you make your own tradeshow displays internally? It may make sense to consider outsourcing them. There are many factors to consider such as time savings, cost management, employee time and expense, internal material availability, and the experience it sometimes requires to efficiently create a show stopping demo.

Time Efficiency – It may seem like doing everything within your own company will save time, but oftentimes the opposite occurs and many crucial hours are lost. Your internal team already has specific tasks to do on a daily basis. It can become very time consuming to add product design to their plate.

Outsourcing with CalCo solves this problem. Have a dedicated team that is readily available and equipped to handle the entire process with skill and agility.

Production Loss – If your team is spending time focusing on display processing, then other things are being placed on the back burner. This usually means production profit is decreased because the process has been extended.

When outsourcing a model, there is no reason for a stall on any production processes or profits. While CalCo creates your show model, you can take the operational time needed to stay on schedule with all your clients.

DETAILS! – Many hands must be involved to smoothly take the process from beginning to end. This causes interruptions, multiple departments worrying about minor details and adjustments that may be needed on the fly.

Outsourcing removes those interruptions from the workflow. CalCo specializes in creating show models for many companies and knows exactly how to do the process efficiently. Let us sweat the small stuff!

Show Paint vs. Production Paint – CalCo understands the significance of creating a show model. While production paint serves more of an industrial purpose, we prioritize solely on using automotive “show quality” paint for all models. This creates a professional and alluring look for displays and creates a lasting impression.

Stands and Base mounts – Having made thousands of stands and display tables over years gives you a fast, reliable and tested solution for displaying your products. You will see the rewards when your finished product showcase is both durable and attractive.

Outsourcing needs is a decision that will greatly benefit your bottom line and your company’s efficiency without adversely affecting your image. If you choose CalCo to handle this work for you, rest assured you are in experienced hands.

  • Pratt & Whitney PT6 Engine Cutaway of a Mainstay Available Now

Posted on February 4th, 2015 admin No comments

    IMG_0110

The Pratt & Whitney PT6 turbine engine in the one of the most popular turboprop engines in history. The PT6 was first put into use in 1964 and is still in production today. This versatile and stable engine design can be found in turboprop airplanes, helicopters, amphibious planes, military aircraft, aerial application planes, Short takeoff and Landing (STOL) aircraft and many more.

The versatility of this engine and the extremely high reliability has made the PT6 a mainstay in the design and manufacturing of small aircraft the world over. The concepts and characteristics of this engine make it a perfect tool for explaining the general concepts and component design of a turboprop engine. A limiting factor historically with creating display engines for use in the classroom or on the show floor is that the engines last so long that a full engine, out of service, is very difficult to find. Parts are reused on further engines, and the lifelong journey of various production parts can span decades.

CalCo, in conjunction with Aerovision International, a leading aircraft and engine service provider, have produced a full cutaway version of the legendary PT6 engine as shown here. The fully exposed engine system shows everything from the 3-stage axial and single stage centrifugal compressors, to the turbines, gears and burners. Color coding is used to help clarify heating and cooling zones through the engine phases.

    IMG_0106IMG_0104IMG_0105IMG_0112

Explaining the properties and functionality of the PT6 as well as overall turboprop design concepts is easy with this fantastic tool. Cutaways like these are as rare as the availability of an out of service PT6, and require the expertise of skilled craftspeople to bring into reality.

For a limited time this exact engine is available for purchase, and with the high demand and low availability of a PT6 cutaway, it will surely be gone in a hurry. The cutaway includes the texture black welded steel rolling engine stand shown, as well as a steel framed shipping container with hinged steel drawbridge style ramp.

We recently visited the SEMA and AAPEX shows in Las Vegas and were thrilled to see Auburn Gear’s shining display.  The Limited Slip Differential cutaways  have gold plating to emphasize the design and they are mounted on our new full color acrylic basemount.  Auburn Gear hit the jackpot with these displays and they were done in time for the show as promised.

  • Eaton’s Lightweight Model is a Heavyweight at the OTC Show

Posted on June 5th, 2014 admin No comments

     Airflex Scale Model on Display

    Close-UpScale Model on base

Eaton typically shows full size product displays, but for bigger products a full size display can be cumbersome and costly to display at trade shows.  For the new Eaton Airflex Water Cooled Brake a product cut-away from CalCo was just the right solution to show the technology in a lightweight and easily handled manner.  While the actual product is 42″ across and requires a forklift to move at tradeshows, the cutaway can be lifted and moved safely by a tradeshow worker.  CalCo’s solution is a hybrid display using a lightweight scale model with real metal fasteners.  The result shows how the product looks and functions in a lighter weight but realistic looking display.  The scale model is less than half the size of the original at 18 inches across. It has over 450 real metal fasteners but the main body portion is made from lightweight plastic.  The detail on the model makes it indistinguishable from the real product and with a section cutaway, the functionality of the product is on full display. The model is so realistic that it can be actuated as it would be in the field, providing customers with a representative example of the inner workings of the product.  The CalCo display is a great solution for a heavy problem!

If you need display ideas for your product, call CalCo at 847/639-3858 or visit our website at www.calcocutaways.com to see more of our work and the other services we offer.  We offer unique solutions.

  • Expose Your Product With A Cutaway

Yamaha completely exposed their technology at the Miami Boat show with a new cutaway of their F200 Outboard Engine. The cutaway allows customers to see the interior configuration of the engine and understand how it works.  The different passageways are painted in different colors to provide a clear understanding of how different fluids and air travel through the system.   The display is great for attracting attention and is a good conversation starter with customers, plus it just looks cool!

The entire booth was awesome and the video below features some equally awesome cutaways by CalCo that make a cameo (Can you spot them?)

  • A Truly Great Product Can Stand On It’s Own

In an effort between Polaris and CalCo, branding and functionality were successfully combined to create a dynamic product stand design that beats all others.

On the surface the smooth design and polished look give an air of professionalism and expertise. The cut logo into smooth stainless panel unmistakably brands the display, while the colors and appearance compliment the Polaris look and feel.

Under the hood, these stands are flexible and rugged. With 4 removable panels, inside storage is a plus in any show environment. The display mounted above can be removed and bolted inside the stand for safe transportation. The fact that the product can be easily removed speaks to the flexibility in design and the ability to use the stands for multiple products across a variety of events.

The engine cutaway shown is one of many that were all on display at a Polaris event recently, along with the 4-sided advanced component display board shown below. All 4 sides were decked out in innovations and advantages of the new Polaris product line, and the backdrop panel doubled as full color signage.

All in all, with Polaris being the leader in their industry, and CalCo being the leader in theirs, you have to know that combining these groups can only lead to impressive and informative displays designed to educate and sell!

  • Spring Trade Shows on the Horizon

Posted on March 20th, 2013 admin No comments

The spring trade show season is upon us and CalCo has been busy helping our customers prepare for successful shows. Some companies have been planning their booths since last spring while others are just getting started. At CalCo, we have found that the key to success at the shows is picking the right shows to attend and being prepared to present your message and your product in its best light. This can be accomplished by having a plan that includes professional displays and materials and that are enhanced and reinforced by knowledgeable salespeople.

In case you are thinking of expanding your current exhibition schedule, a brief summary of a few of the upcoming shows follows.

The Mid-America Truck Show or MATS, Louisville, KY,  March 21-23.  This show is for the heavy duty trucking industry.  We have been creating displays for this show for many years and we usually visit the show to see the displays in action. The type of displays is wide ranging.  We have seen complete trucks on display, engine cutaways, full length animation and 3-d models and we have made many of them ourselves.  The show has over 1,000 exhibitors and last year there were over 80,000 attendees from 77 countries.

Hannover Messe Show , Hannover Germany,  April 8-12.  It is billed as the world’s most important technology show and demonstrates new technology and automation. This years theme is integrated industry and there will be 11 trade fairs (Industrial automation, Motion/Drive & Automation, Energy, Wind, Mobilitec, Digital Factory, ComVac, Industrial Supply, Surface Technology, Industrial GreenTec, Research & Technology), occuring simultaneously with over 5,000 exhibitors and an expected 185,000 attendees. We are exhibiting at this show for the first time this year so if you will be there, let us know.

Bauma 2013, Munich, April 15-21.  International show for construction, building material and mining machines and vehicles. With 3,256 exhibitors and an expected 420,000 attendees it is a great opportunity to see some giant machines and make some good contacts. The show is structured around four sectors: All Around Construction Sites, Mining, Extraction & Processing of Raw Materials, Production of Building Materials and Component & Service Suppliers

Offshore Technology Conference, Houston, May 6-9.  The OTC show focuses on the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection. The  conference, geared toward energy professionals, offers a comprehensive technical program and exhibits of the latest products and services. With 2,500 exhibitors, 80,000+ attendees and 110 countries representated it is one of the top 200 shows in the US.  We create displays for this show every year which have included,  underground cable cutaways embedded in acrylic, pump cutaways and displays, valves, regulators, couplers, cables, scale models, working models and display stands.  We usually visit the show to see what is new in the industry and it is always fascinating.

Electric Power Expo, Rosemont, IL,  May 14-16.  Over 5,000 power generation industry professionals from around the world attend.  The show, directed towards plant management and corporate personnel from utilities around the world,  is dedicated to each of the leading fuels – coal, gas, nuclear and renewable energy, and multiple tracks filled with cross-cutting content like environmental regulations and technology. There will be over 150 exhibitors  and attendees from 31 countries and 47 US states.

American Water Works Assn Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE 13), Denver, June 9-13.  Designed for Water professionals there are over 900 presenters on a variety of water-related topics and 500 exhibitors from all segments of the water industry.

These are just a few of the shows that CalCo will be visiting soon. Once again trade show attendance is increasing. TSNN (Trade Show News Network) reports an increase of 3% for 2012 over 2011 and the much improved levels of foot traffic at shows is quite obvious. According to the 2012 Pulse Survey, conducted for the Exhibition and Convention Executives Forum, 58 percent of trade shows reported growth in the number of exhibitors in 2012, with only 12 percent reporting a decline, all indications that the trade show circuit is kicking back into high gear ….. so call CalCo at 847-639-3858 and let us help you plan ahead!
