Need a prototype model fast?  Send us your 3-D file and we can create a full color model for you in no time.

Using a 3-D printer with 24-bit color capability and using a  high performance composite to create very thin layers and bond them together we are able to create a three dimensional replica of your design with a quick turnaround time.  These prototypes can be used for concept models, design testing, presentation models, sales demonstrations, architectural models, tradeshow or exhibits, marketing and much more.

We take your idea and put it in your hands NOW.  It is always easier to hold an item, look at it and see how it functions in real life instead of just on paper.   Your prototype is made from a lightweight plaster composite and is an exact replica of your design.    We can accommodate one piece  designs up to  10″ x 14″ x 8″.  For larger designs we can build a scale model or in some cases we can make it in pieces and then join them together.

If you have questions about a rapid prototyping project just call us at 847/639-3858 or e-mail us at news@calcocutaways.com and we will be happy to help! Click here for further contact information.

CalCo is located in Cary, Illinois but we work with companies and individuals all over North America and the world.

  • Cutaways: Tips for Maximizing this Unique Tool

    1-weftec-pentaircrop

Of the many ways available to explain the benefits and advantages of your product line to people, you probably already know that there is a great deal of value in getting the actual product into the hands of potential clients or investors, right?

Cutaways are about the highest form of education mixing with a “real world” feel that is available for many physical products.

There is a significant advantage that is gained by giving someone this physical connection with your products. Are you maximizing the edge that this type of hands on experience can give??

Let’s look at many of the people can benefit from the educational nature of this type of tool:

    • The end user (educational and memorable)
    • The potential and current investor
    • The sales person (descriptive and interactive)
    • Trade show staff and visitors (draw and discussions)
    • Field service personnel (education)
    • Your end user’s service department
    • Distributor networks (point of purchase)
    • Website visitors
    • Direct mail recipients
    • Marketing department (website and brochure/catalog development)
    • Investor relations representative

Many companies are only taking advantage of a slim cross section of these opportunities, and some are taking advantage of close to all of them. . .

Even a single cutaway can be used in almost all of these areas if managed correctly. Most times it makes sense to make these educational tools widely available, as knowledge leads to understanding, and let’s face it, when everyone knows why your products are the best, your main focus will be on filling orders!!

CalCo has been designing and producing high quality cutaways since 1953.  To make a cutaway we take your product and physically cut it open to show the inner parts that make your product unique.  Cutaways are invaluable tools because they are interactive.  They allow your customer to see, feel and in many cases move your product to see the most important features hidden inside.

Cutaways can be used for a wide variety of products including the following:

    • Valves
    • Pumps
    • Engines
    • Transmissions
    • Actuators
    • Tools
    • Machines
    • Hydraulics
    • Pneumatics
    • Regulators
    • Torches
    • Appliances
    • Electrical and Electronic Equipment

We have created cutaways from many materials including plastic controllers, speakers and toilets.    We have the capability to cut any material and in any thickness, from the toughest grade of stainless steel to ceramics.

Cutaways have become quite popular at tradeshows but they are also used for lobby installations, investor relations meetings, sales calls, advertising and brochures, training and awards.
